Now that Apple's highly anticipated "Glowtime" event has concluded, the spotlight has shifted to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. But as we delve into the features of these latest models, our attention inevitably turns to the future – and the possibilities that the iPhone 17 may bring.

If the recent iPhone 16 announcement didn't quite live up to your expectations, or you're not yet due for an upgrade, there's still plenty to look forward to. Although Apple remains tight-lipped about the iPhone 17, rumors, leaks, and news reports are already providing a glimpse into what we can expect.

Luckily, some of these rumors have already started circulating, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the next iPhone. Let's explore what we know so far about the iPhone 17.

A new horizon for iPhone design?

One of the most significant potential developments surrounding the iPhone 17 is the rumored introduction of a new, thinner model to the iPhone family. According to multiple sources, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and The Information, Apple plans to discontinue the Plus model and replace it with a sleeker, more streamlined iPhone. Dubbed the "iPhone 17 Slim" or "iPhone 17 Air" by some, the official name remains a mystery for now.

This new slim iPhone is expected to boast a display measuring around 6.5 or 6.6-inches in size, significantly thinner than existing iPhones. However, with different sources offering conflicting information, it's unclear what this phone will ultimately entail. The Information suggests it will be the most expensive and high-end phone in the new lineup, while Kuo disagrees. Only time will tell what unfolds.

In the meantime, it's worth exploring how this new design might impact the overall user experience. For instance, a slimmer phone could make it easier to carry and handle, much like the groundbreaking features that have been revealed in recent leaks.

ProMotion technology for all

As Apple typically does when introducing a new generation of iPhones, it's likely that features previously exclusive to Pro models will trickle down to the new base models. This time, it appears that ProMotion is next in line for a mass rollout.

According to MacRumors, all four iPhone 17 models will feature 120Hz refresh rates thanks to ProMotion display technology. This is a welcome development that's not quite on the same level as Apple finally adding USB-C ports to iPhones, but it's a significant step forward. Apple's base-level iPhones have been stuck on 60Hz displays for years, while competitors like Google have bumped even their budget handsets up past 90Hz or more.

One of the primary areas where base model iPhones have been lagging behind is about to get a much-needed overhaul, and ideally, Apple will address this shortcoming sooner rather than later.

Next-Generation A19 Processors

While details are still under wraps, Apple has consistently equipped its Pro iPhone models with cutting-edge, high-performance processors every year. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro models feature the A18 Pro chip, a groundbreaking innovation for this year.

Based on this established pattern, it's logical to anticipate the introduction of an A19 processor in the upcoming iPhones. If history repeats itself, this upgrade might be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro models, while the standard iPhone 17 receives a slightly older processor. However, Apple is known for its unpredictability, so only time will tell what the future holds for chip technology.

Revolutionized Selfie Camera

While iPhone selfies have always been impressive, there's always room for refinement. Rumors suggest the iPhone 17 will take a significant leap forward in this direction.

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors), all four new iPhone 17 models will feature a 24MP front-facing camera, a substantial enhancement from the 12MP camera on the iPhone 16 models. The actual impact of this upgrade remains to be seen, but it's undoubtedly a significant stride forward.

Advanced Camera Upgrades

In a separate report, Kuo, a renowned Apple prognosticator, revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max (at the very least) will boast a trio of 48MP camera lenses on the rear for the first time. The wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses will all be 48MP next year, a significant improvement over the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, which only feature 12MP telephoto lenses.

This development could potentially lead to even more impressive zoom capabilities.
